Rookery Park Junior Open

RPGC Junior Open (SGUOOM)

The Club's Junior Open (a Suffolk Golf Union Junior Order of Merit Event) took place on Friday 5th August, a top quality field including defending champion Habebul Islam (Ipswich GC), did battle in near perfect conditions. Habe was not going to give up his crown easily as he shot a superb 2 under par gross 70 to win by 7 shots. Runner-up was Harry Hodgson (Woodbridge GC). Habe also took the handicap prize with his nett 69, three players all finished with nett 71's, with Jack Butcher (Gorleston), edging Harry Hodgson & Tyler Weaver (West Suffolk GC) on a count back.

In the Stableford competition (over 18 handicap), Rookery Park's Harvey Eade was victorious with his superb score of 40 points. Runner-up was Joe Ford (Southwold GC) with his score of 38 points. Mary Cuthbert (Thorpeness), took the girls prize.

Left to Right: Harvey Eade, Steve Whiteside (RPGC Junior Organiser), Habebul Islam, & Mary Cuthbert.

Junior Easter Break

Easter Holiday Junior Competitions

A busy easter holidays brought a great spread of winners with some excelent scoring. The two week spell started with the traditional Easter Cup played on Easter Saturday, The weather made scoring very tough, but it was season rookie and order of merit leader Harvey Eade that battled on for a nett 77 to claim the first trophy of the season followed in close second by Conal Downing with a net78. The next event was the first round of the medal cup where Ben Newman showed his class with a solid 73, just pipping Harvey Eade on count back. The third and final trophy event of the easter break was the Glen Spindler Cup, the first time this event has been competed for since 2006 and it was great to see Conal Downing back in the frame, after most of the season off last year due to injury, he posted a sublime nett 68 to take victory by 5 strokes over Josh Altham. The order of merit is now closely contended with Harvey eade still leading the way on 126 points but a strong few competitions has seen canal downing move from last place to second on 90 points.

A busy easter break finished with a team event away at Bungay where Jake andKasey Bailey along with Ben Newman competed in the Junior Team Championship, unfortunately the team lost out by just 9 points. It has been a great couple of weeks and I have enjoyed organising all of the junior trophy events, the next major event in the 2nd round of the Lowestoft GC Knock Out Cup on the 23rd April.
