Rookery Park Stenson Team Reach Semi-Finals

SGU Stenson Shield 3rd Round Saturday 22nd July 2017

The Club's Stenson team had a tricky 3rd round home tie against a strong Hintlesham team on Saturday. The Hintlesham team featured County 1st Team Captain Jack Cardy, as well as current Suffolk Open Champion Sam Debenham. Rookery Non-playing Captain Chris Soanes was just about able to field his strongest line up (minus Neil Davey). There was nothing to choose between the two evenly matched sides at lunch, after the morning foursomes finished 2 - 2. In the afternoon singles, Chris as expected sent Club Champion Calvin Sherwood out first, Calvin delivered a superb 6 & 4 victory to give Rookery the platform they were looking for. Wins for Jack Blowers (2 up) and Luke Thompson (3 & 1), gave Rookery the perfect start leaving the remaining 5 players needing only 2 points for victory. In-form Junior Captain Conal Downing had the unenviable task of playing +3 Jack Cardy, Conal produced some superb golf to record a famous 2 & 1 victory and at the same time put rookery firmly in the driving seat. There were defeats for Phil Hetherington, Guy Mummery, and Craig Bloodworth, leaving Andy Coleman to come up with the decisive point and take Rookery through to the semi-final. Andy did not disappoint winning the final singles match comfortably 5 & 4.

Rookery now face holders Woodbridge in the semi-final at Halesworth GC on Saturday 12th August.

Well done.
