Fishing Smack & Jubileee Cup

Fishing Smack & Jubilee Cup Sunday 30th July

Following a heavy overnight thunderstorm, the course held up superbly as a field of 59 took part in the Fishing Samck & Jubilee Cup, a Suffolk Golf Union Order of Merit Event. This year players came from across England, with 2 players from Hainault Forest, 1 from Clacton-on-Sea, and 1 (Gary Robson) from Stoney Holme GC in Carlisle. 

In the Jubilee Cup, (Scratch) Habebul Islam (Ipswich) had a 2 shot lead over County Captain Jack Cardy, (Hintlesham) and Michael Gee (Bury St Edmunds), after shhoting an excellent 1 under par 71. In the afternoon a 9 on the par 4 6th put paid to any chance Hab had of winning the scratch prize, leaving the door open for Jack to return another gross 73 and win the trophy by two shots from Rookery Parks Calvin Sherwood. Third place on 149 was another Rookery player Luke Thompson.

In the Fishing Smack,(Handicap) the competition was dominated by Rookery Park members. Rising junior star Ben Newman had rounds of nett 70 and 71 to edge Kevin Roe (142) by one shot. Third place went to Kevin Fitzgerald with 146, Kevin edged Geoff Edwards on a count back.

Nearest the pin prizes in the morning went to Richard Boon (4th), and Steve Cocca (11th). In the afternoon nearest prizes went to Kevin Fitzgerald (9th) and Danny Perring (Gorleston) (14th).
