Green-Keeper's Revenge Fri 5th June 2015
Friday 5th June saw the third annual Green-Keeper’s Revenge competition. Since its inception for Graham Shillings’ Captains Week, the event has grown into one of the most eagerly anticipated competitions of the year. 84 golfers faced a number of challenges set out by Head Green-Keeper Mark Henderson and his staff, obstacles varied from spray can lids as hole cups, ladders and hose pipes on greens, and a hole called ‘gone to the beach’ where players had beach balls, wind breaks, and buckets and spades as obstacles. After players had completed their 14 holes the winners were still to be decided as teams had to choose which coloured flag to play to on the 2nd hole, teams that chose the correct flag had 2 shots deducted from their score, teams that chose the wrong flags had one shot added to their score. In the gent’s competition ‘Team Fosters’ consisting of Gary Flatt, John Marjoram, Trevor Hook, and Ian Howlett won with a score net 34.6, this was after correctly going for the yellow flag on the 2nd. Runners-up were ‘Team Fitzgerald’ consisting of Kevin Fitzgerald, Patrick Fitzgerald, Gary Clow, and Steve Downing with their score of net 35.6. In the mixed/ladies competition ‘Team Legs 11’ consisting of Gill Alden, Marilyn Tallamy, Yvonne Maclean, and Petronella Wright won with a very impressive score of net 38.4, runners-up were ‘Crisp Packet’ consisting of Andy Crisp, Julia Calver, Ian Dawson, and Veronica Dawson with their score of net 41.6.
