Gent's June Saturday Stableford
At the start of the 2017 Paul Soloman set himself three goals that he felt were realistic (to break 80, to birdie the 8th, and to get an eagle on any hole), in last month's May Saturday Stableford Paul birdied the 8th, and on Saturday he broke 80 for the first time in recording a superb 41 Pts to win division 1 of the June Saturday Stableford. Everything was looking good for Paul with two holes left to play he just needed to finish 5, 5 for a 79. Disaster struck on the 17th as Paul missed the green for 2, chipped on but three putted for a 6. Two steady shots up the 18th saw Paul in a great position to get close in 3, however with the nerves jangling Paul's chip only reached the collar of the green leaving himself a 30 foot putt for an unlikely birdie. With his playing partners looking on Paul stroked home a lovely birdie putt and a gross 79. Anyone watching would have thought he had won the US Open like Hale Irwin all those years ago, when he holed a monster 45 foot putt to force a play-off (which he won) and ran round the 18th green high fiving all the spectators!!. 2nd place in division 1 was Colin Cook (38 Pts). Division 2 was a much closer contest, Julian (Jules) Emeny scoring 37 Pts to beat Richard Utton by a point.
